We are very excited to announce WORKSHOP Youth Dance Collab. WORKSHOP is an intersectional and affirming dance collab for young and young at heart dancers. Open to all dancers aged 15+, WORKSHOP classes are a chance to explore ideas, develop and perform with a community of like-minded dancers. Our work is arts in action, arts as activism, arts as healing. WORKSHOP is a community collaboration led and facilitated by experienced dance teacher and arts educator Brie Jessen-Vaughan.
What is WORKSHOP?
What should I expect from WORKSHOP?
WORKSHOP weekly classes will explore and develop material to contribute to a performance around a specific feminist theme or issue. Classes are grounded in contemporary technique but expand beyond this based on the skills within the group. Classes build on each other as we work towards choreographing a performance. WORKSHOP members have the opportunity to take on additional offstage roles in the production process. To help cover the cost of rehearsal space hire, there is a $5 per class fee.
Who can get involved?
We are looking for collaborative, creative young people with a passion for making positive change in the world through the arts. Experience in dance or other physical performance medium is essential but your attitude, interest and willingness to both perform and be part of the choreographic process is key!
What is WORKSHOP?
- A chance to create meaningful choreography with others
- Performance opportunities for young people that aren’t competition based
- A community
- A way to keep dancing even after you’ve finished school
- Arts as activism and advocacy
