TDWC Expectations

Uniform/Attire

Students are expected to wear appropriate dance clothing, which enables them to move freely and safely, while still allowing the teacher to see the way the body is moving. This includes:
  • hair tied back from face
  • fitted dance clothing as detailed below
  • bare feet or appropriate shoes

Our exam uniform is optional for students who choose not to sit assessments or exams, but may be worn in class. Details below. Students sitting assessments or exams must wear correct uniform for these.

Class Dancewear

Jazz/Lyrical/Creative Movement/Contemporary
Top (one of the following):
  • leotard OR fitted singlet top OR fitted t-shirt/long sleeve top
Bottom (one of the following):
  • Black full or 3/4 leggings OR bike shorts OR hot pants
Skin coloured or ballet pink dance tights may be worn under bike shorts or hot pants.

Ballet
Girls:
  • Solid colour leotard
  • Pink ballet tights
  • Optional wrap skirt

Warmer clothing may be worn over top of this during winter for the first 15 minutes of class.

Shoes

Shoes are not necessary from the outset, but do make dancing a lot easier on the body. It is a good idea to give your child time to make a commitment to the class before investing in dance shoes. Please note that dance shoes are only compulsory for Jazz and ballet classes after the first term.
  • Jazz - black jazz shoes (required after first term)
  • Lyrical  - bare feet or foot undeez or ballet flats or jazz shoes
  • Contemporary - bare feet or foot undeez
  • Ballet - leather or canvas ballet shoes with elastic

Expectations

Regular attendance is expected and teachers should be notified of any absence. Students are expected to conduct themselves in a responsible and considerate way, showing respect for teachers and fellow students.
The Dance Well Centre is not liable for any personal injury sustained or any loss of personal property whilst at classes. We aim to offer a safe environment and take every precaution to reduce the risk of injury, however parents and students should be aware that from time to time injuries can occur and students must accept this risk. A first aid kit is available on site.

Exam Uniform

Details can be found here. We are an inclusive school. Jazz and Contemporary uniforms are designed to be worn by any gender, and alternatives are available for students requiring more modest options.
